We can't always run away from pain, but...

15/7/2013

ImagenMum and I on the day
... there are a million different ways to experience it! Whether we suffer from physical pain or not, does depend on our thinking. We can not always choose what we think in any given moment but we can be aware THAT we always think and where our experience is coming from... The difference is: we feel at the mercy of pain or not.

A good example is my mother. She has been suffering with pain in her feet on and off for years. When I was in Berlin last October she had great difficulties walking because of severe pain in one foot and was limping more or less all the time. One day we were running late to go to an appointment and we had to run to catch a bus. She was laughing her head off when I mentioned to her afterwards, that she ran like "a young one" and we indeed managed to get on the bus. During the journey I asked her if her foot was not hurting and she looked at me and said "actually........ no!" amazing, she had actually forgotten about it LOL afterwards she was limping again. How can that be?!

What do we make of the pain once we "know" it is there? It must be there until we forget because we got something better to do (= running to catch a bus). But how real is the pain in the first place?? We don't believe it can just go away until it does..... Once diagnosed we might think it can not be cured. Like my Mum, her doctor is convinced she needs to live with this chronic pain until the end of her days and it will only get worse because the condition is degenerative... Guess what, I had her here in Spain in March and she had a treatment which helped to loosen up the ligaments and muscles in her foot a bit and within an hour she was walking pain-free!! How can that be, if the X-ray actually shows the bones being so badly damaged from arthritis, that walking pain-free should be impossible?! She thought it was a miracle!!

And I then told her about the power of Thought. Any thought we happen to have comes alive in our experience via the power of Consciousness, like a movie appears on a screen because the light of the projector shines through the pictures of the film. We live in such a movie all the time, whatever we experience! It is so simple that we overlook it....... If we don't like the movie, we have the chance to just swap channels at any given moment  and everything appears in different light!! Even physical pain does!! How about you, can you remember a situation where your experience of a physical symptom shifted naturally without an actual change of circumstances?!

I would love to hear what you think, it would be great if you could leave a comment at the bottom...

Whatever the doctor diagnoses, it is still up to us, what we make of it!! If you would like to start enjoying life more despite your physical pains, right now I have got three free breakthrough sessions available, where we get crystal clear about your way forward to emotional freedom. We will uncover what gets in the way for you and at the end you will have had a glimpse into the potential of this simple understanding which makes you catch the bus to a better quality of life ;-) All you need to do is get in touch with me and apply for your free session, email me now!

Let there be hope... Dry eyes or not?

I experienced something a few weeks ago which is a bit of a miracle in my eyes: I have been suffering with very dry eyes for quite some time now and I tried all sorts of alternative things to get rid of the uncomfortable feeling but nothing really helped. Doctors prescribe eye drops and they don't really do it either... Mainly at night I woke up with my eye balls sticking firmly to my eye lids and then always had difficulties going back to sleep afterwards because of the ongoing discomfort. Surely I also got worried about why this happens, how this could ever be solved and thinking about the future with it getting worse and worse etc....

When I woke up in the middle of this particular night and started tossing around I suddenly remembered that I had this problem before, a few years ago, and that it must have disappeared from one day to the other without me really noticing it....  I can only recall that I said something to myself and I remember the empowering feeling of a revelation, you know when you understand something new which comes with that "aha effect"? Then I went straight back to sleep (for the first time in months after waking up with that problem). When I woke up the next time in the early morning hours, it was gone!! I mean not just better, I mean GONE!!

Picture
I really couldn't believe it!! I was trying to make sense of what happened and could only come to the conclusion that it dissolved because I stopped worrying about it... I so wish I could remember what exactly it was that came to me as an insight but it must have been something that allowed me to simply let it go..... What else could have changed during the night other than my thinking about it?? I did not sleep with an eye specialist LOL, nor did I do anything... I clearly felt the relief of seeing something new which also allowed me to just go back to sleep as if the problem was solved...... and it was......... for days I did not have any symptoms at all...

Now guess what happens........... every now and then it re-appears, not as bad as it was, but I have started "playing" with it........ the more attention I give it, the worse it gets. My mind obviously can't comprehend how it disappeared and creates all sorts of thoughts around it once more, analyzing, trying to understand. It is as if it grows the more I doubt the fact that it was really gone. At the same time it does not work telling myself "it is just thought" for it to disappear again. It clearly needs seeing on a deeper level, otherwise it stays on our minds somewhere in the background and still plays out from there.

I see this little story as a clear proof for that worrying does not help a health condition, it makes it worse. And it gives me hope that the power of Thought not only brings alive our feelings and emotions (via the power of Consciousness) but that also our physical bodies respond to the same creative process and that spontaneous healing is possible via insight on a deep level. I found this talk by Lissa Rankin MD really fascinating, it shows the power of our minds revealed by her research:

The best I can describe what I feel we can "do" is to just trust in our innate healing abilities. Am not saying we should ignore the symptoms but leave the thinking to the doctor and listen to our inner voice of wisdom which is powered up by this intelligence behind life which Sydney Banks called "Universal Mind". The good news is, there is something we can do while we undergo treatment: I believe more and more the cure lies in simply gaining an understanding of the Three Principles in an insightful way which naturally brings fresh thinking into our consciousness and bodies.

With a deeper understanding of how the process works behind the scenes of our personal mind, we not only have the handle on how we experience our health but miracles are more likely to happen...

    Disclaimer:

All blog posts and videos point to our innate health and wisdom we have access to when in a state of peace of mind. Listening to our inner voice or wisdom does not mean to "do nothing" but to act from the most calm and certain state of mind possible, from where solutions and options can emerge we have not thought of before. Conventional as well as alternative medicine have their place and are essential part of our available choices. When in any doubt, always consult with your doctor. Afterwards, decisions can be best made with a clear head.
