This morning I did not want to get out of my bed!! I was thinking about the route I ran last Friday and thought I would never be able to run that far again. It actually appeared absolutely impossible to me that I could have ever managed to run to that farm on the other side of the fields and back at all!! Now I call this running LOL somebody else might call it Granny-Walking but if you consider that only three years ago I wasn't even able to walk 50 metres without being in agony, 3,5 km in 28 minutes is not too bad ;-)
I only got out of bed and into my running shoes because I happened to think that "just in case I could simply go for a walk". Once I got out there I thought to give it a go and started running... Halfway round I couldn't believe that I was actually enjoying this and was quite keen to make it faster this time!! Well, I didn't in the end but the point is...
We can do it!! We actually can do what we think we can do, and sometimes even more....... If only we don't listen to this negative little voice inside of our head all the time!! I could have easily stayed in bed, not gone out at all or limited myself to "just" a walk!
Now if we understand that all our feelings come from the way we think, we don't have to buy into that feeling of inadequacy and fear of failing which was the reason for me to wanting to stay in bed. My experience naturally shifted when I suddenly thought that I had nothing to loose if I at least go for a walk, which got me out of bed. Once I was outside it shifted again, thinking that I could give it a try at least and would be able to stop at any time..... With every fresh thought my way of seeing this run changed and in the end I even became competitive! And although I didn't quite manage to beat my time, 29 minutes against the wind compared to staying in bed really made my day!!
And this is true for anything we can experience in life!! How often do we give in and don't do what we fancy to do because of doubts, fears or other negative feelings?? Try to see, this negative voice in our heads is only our thinking! We are making it up! And it is not necessarily true!! So lets be aware of what we want to believe as we are the creators of all our limitations...
